Cornelia is a small town in the Free State province of South Africa. In 1894 it was named after the wife of former Free State President Francis William Reitz.
The town is situated near the Skoonriver (Clean River).
On the Uitzoek farm 10 km north of Cornelia, fossils where discovered, including a donkey-sized pig and the three-toed horse (Eurygnathohippus cornelianus) only previously found in Tanzania. Stone Age tools have also been found here.
